DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE
I would like to extend my greetings to all of you on this day and express my deep gratitude for visiting the website of the National Museum of Natural Sciences, which aims to disseminate the unique features of the world and the valuable evidence of Mongolia's natural history.
The foundation of modern museums in Mongolia was laid in 1921, and the historical journey of the Natural History Museum began when it opened its doors to the public in 1924. Since its establishment, it has been collecting, preserving, studying, and promoting the country's natural, geological, paleontological, plant and animal heritage.
It has been operating as the "National Central Museum" since 1956, and in 1974, when it celebrated its 50th anniversary, it was awarded the "Altan Gadas" medal, which was a historical event that confirmed its valuable contribution to the Mongolian museum sector. In 1991, the collection diversified and the Natural History Museum was established independently. In 2019, the Central Dinosaur Museum was merged and organized and operated in the museum's designated building.
The past year was full of historical events for our museum. We are pleased to announce that the name and status of the museum was changed by the Resolution No. 244 of the Government of Mongolia dated December 31, 2025, and it was organized as the 'National Museum of Natural Sciences'. By thus upgrading our status and status to a national-level museum, we are starting a new century of protecting the natural history and cultural heritage of our country and keeping pace with the development of world science.
In addition to serving as a permanent exhibition hall, the National Museum of Natural Sciences is also expanding and developing into a cognitive environment that opens up interesting knowledge of natural science based on museum exhibits with equal access for children, students, families, researchers, and social participants.
